A Wish Flower

Three Dandelions poking out of the sidewalk
Ahh aren't dandelions just so much fun! The wonderful plant that could make all your wishes and dreams come true and all you have to do is successfully blow away all the seeds in one go. Who wouldn't love a plant like that. Unless your gardener, in which case this weed is the bane of your existence since it feels like no matter what you do this stupid weed never seems to go away. Like seriously one day you spend hours picking them out just for there to be two times as many in its place the very next day. Dandelions are everyone with as much as an inch of grass worst nightmare. Unfortunately love them or hate them there here to stay and there isn't anything anyone can do about it. Trust me I've tried. :|

Anyways a bit about this photo, I was going on a walk when I spotted this little patch. I was going to pluck the remaining one and make a wish but decided instead to take a photo of it. (In case anyone was wondering I did pluck it after words, but my wish didn't end up becoming true :/). While this photo doesn't have much going on I did feel like it was appropriate for this photo journal because what's more mundane than a weed in the sidewalk. There are some aspects of this photo I really like though. For instance, it does follow some of the rules when it comes to good composition for photography. The main focus isn't on the middle, there are diagonal lines, in a sense rule of thirds, and if you squint your eyes and fudge it a little there is an also a triangle. See I may be an amateur, but I do know stuff .... Sometimes.

I would also like to draw attention to the fact that there tends to be a lot of symbolism when it comes to plants growing through the crack of concrete. It tends to represent resilience, hope, and perseverance which is pretty neat when you consider the facts that something so mundane can have so much meaning. It really makes you want to have a look around your day-to-day life and see what else you might be glossing over.

Was I thinking of this when I took the photo, No.

Was I thinking of photography composition when I took the photo, Also No.

But maybe that just means I'm so good that I was doing is subconsciously, right? Yeah, that's also a no :(

Anyway, here is some fun facts about dandelions.

Dandelion comes from the French name "dent de lion" which translates to Lions tooth. To be honest I don't fully understand how they came to that conclusion as the best name for this plant, but I've learned not to question the French language.

Dandelions were originally from Eurasia but has now made North America their home. Is there any way we can send them back? I'm being serious, their such a pain and I really don't want to have to deal with them.

Dandelions are edible and can serve a medicinal purpose. At one point they were even grown for this very reason. I would appreciate them more if they would stop taking all the nutrients, water and sunlight from my other plants. There is also the fact that they grow everywhere (Yes, I'm fully aware that a big part of this is my fault for spreading the seeds every time I pick one up, but you can't fully blame me since it's a lot of fun).

Anyways I'm going to go a make some dandelion tea and drink it in front of the other dandelions of my garden as an intimidation tactic. Wish me luck :D
